Is HD DVD dead? According to what I've read... Yea, I think so.
But as mentioned the other day, it seems that they are slashing prices of their players to get mass market adoption.

Enter Amazon, who is selling the low end HD-A3 for $129 with free shipping and a rebate for 5 HD DVD titles.
Should you buy one? If you believe in taking the chance that HD DVD will pull an Eli Manning led Giants Superbowl run.

If anything, the thing will upconvert regular DVD's as well so if HD DVD does finally go belly up, you can be sure you can still use it for more than just a door stop.
(Note: Engadget says 7 HD DVD titles are free, but I don't see that. Good look anyway.)
