The Germans (BMW, Mercedes & VW*) laughed too when Honda founded Acura in 1986 and then again when Toyota and Nissan founded Lexus and Infiniti respectfully in 1989. It looks like the 2 Genesi (??) sedan and coupe will be the first offspring of the luxury brand with possibly the same name. *(Does VW count? Of course they own Bugatti & Bentley. But do you remember the ill fated 1st gen Phaeton? Meh.)
The first new cars will debut in China in 2010 with the debut of 1 to 2 cars per year.
Of course the jokes already abound regarding a possible name for the company.
"I hear they're going with LexCedes."
"...the brand name should be "Lexurati"

"There will be a sister model, designed exclusively for fast getaways... Called the Exodus."
