NYTimes: Why Blu-ray's Future Looks Bright

The S.O. wants a 32 inch LCD. Yea. So while looking at TV's the other day at P.C. Richard's, she wandered over into the DVD player isle and stood frozen as if in shock. "Oh my Gawd!"

"Babe!", she shouted. "Take. A look. At this."

It was Blu-Ray.

A Blu-Ray promotional DVD to be exact playing on a 50 inch 1080p plasma TV. And I had to admit. I knew about the format war. Wrote about the format war. But since I had no intention of getting a High Def DVD player until there was 1) a clear-cut winner and 2) a more than reasonable price. I wasn't interested... Until now.

Now. Sony has won the war. Karma for that whole Betamax fiasco? Who knows.

And while Blu-Ray players won't be getting any cheaper.. At least not for now anyway. $399 for a Playstation 3, the most affordable Blu-Ray player on the market, may not be so bad of an idea.

I mean, the picture that had S.O. rivited to her spot, was indeed spectacular.

Jason Turbow of 'The New York Times' seems to agree.
