iPhone Kicks Butt.. Beats Razr to #1 in the US, Beats Blackberry to #2 in the World..

A year and a half into the cellphone biz, Apple now has a higher global marketshare than Research in Motion, the Canadian maker of the Blackberry line of Smartphones. Second only to Nokia, Apple's 17.3% share beats out RIM's 15.2% but is belittled by Nokia's 38.9% although the Finnish cellphone giant has seent its share drop more than 12% from last year.

Domestically, for the first time in 3 years, Apple’s iPhone 3G surpassed the Motorola RAZR as the leading handset purchased by adult consumers in the U.S. in Q3 of 2008 according to The NPD Group, the leader in market research for the wireless industry.

Below are the top handset sales in the U.S. in rank order:

  1. Apple iPhone 3G

  2. Motorola RAZR V3

  3. RIM Blackberry Curve

  4. LG Rumor

  5. LG enV2

This is a watershed moment for handset sales in the US
